Done Deal For General

Today, General Cigar Co. acquired U.S. Cigar Sales Inc. General, based in New York City, makes some of the best-known premium cigar brands sold in the United States, including Macanudo and Partagas. U.S. Cigar Sales, of Tampa, Florida, is the maker of Astral, Helix and other brands. General acquired U.S. Cigar Sales from Swedish Match North America Inc., which acquired U.S. Cigar Sales from its former parent, UST Inc. of Greenwich, Connecticut.

Swedish Match AB, the parent company of Swedish Match North America, owns 64 percent of General.

General and U.S. Cigar Sales own cigar factories in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
