Light a Fuente For Charity
Posted: Wednesday, October 06, 2004
By David Savona On Thursday, October 7, Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. and the J.C. Newman Cigar Co. are set to re-create their Toast Across America, a one-day event in which more than 5,000 cigar lovers are expected to buy cigars to raise more than $300,000 for charity. Much of the proceeds will go to bring relief to the poor of the Dominican Republic, where Fuente and Newman cigars are made, and some of the funds will be donated in memory of Flight 587, the American Airlines flight that crashed on November 12, 2001, soon after takeoff from New York’s John F. Kennedy airport. Many of the victims of the flight were Dominican.
“The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation is about the spirit of giving back to the Dominican people,” said Carlos Fuente Jr., president of Tabacalera A. Fuente, which makes such cigars as Arturo Fuente and Fuente Fuente OpusX.
The Toast Across America will involve cigar smokers across all 50 states. To find a retailer who is participating, go to www.cigarfamily.com.
