ProCigar Takes Manhattan
Posted: Tuesday, October 05, 2004
By Michael Moretti A veritable who's who of cigarmakers gathered last night at New York City's posh Hudson Hotel for a ProCigar discussion on Dominican Republic cigars.
Representatives of ProCigar attending were Henke Kelner of Davidoff, Guillermo León of La Aurora, José Seijas of Altadis, Manuel Quesada of MATASA and Benjamin Menendez of General Cigar. ProCigar is an organization of prominent Dominican cigarmakers who are both friends and competitors with the goal of continually improving the quality of premium cigars as a whole.
The speakers addressed customers of Manhattan's Davidoff Columbus Circle and Davidoff Madison Avenue stores. On the penthouse suite's expansive outdoor roof deck, which overlooks midtown Manhattan and the Hudson River, all enjoyed spirits, hors d'oeuvres and a special gift pack of Dominican cigars, including Fonseca, Davidoff, León Jimenes, Juan Clemente, Macanudo, Don Tomás and Montecristo. The tranquil location provided an ideal setting for the event. People could enjoy a smoke on the outdoor terrace or inside a tent sent up for the occasion.
At the end of the discussion, boxes of cigars donated by each speaker and the company he represents were raffled off. Proceeds were donated to the ProCigar charity fund, which benefits Dominican cigar rollers and their families.
More ProCigar discussions will be held this week, on October 5 and October 7. Both will take place at Davidoff of Geneva's flagship store on Madison Avenue. Call the store at 212-751-9060 for more details. Also in Cigar News:
