Cigars and Politics

Posted: Thursday, September 02, 2004

By David Savona

The ears of Democratic hopefuls weren't the only things on fire during this week's Republican National Convention in New York City. Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani hosted a cigar party for several hundred guests at the Grand Havana Room on Monday night, complete with custom-inscribed Montecristos courtesy of Altadis U.S.A. Inc.

The cigars were printed with the cigar-loving Giuliani's name and "2004 Republican National Convention." Attendees included actor and Cigar Aficionado cover celebrity Andy Garcia, Jason Sehorn and his wife, Angie Harmon, and "Saturday Night Live" alum Joe Piscopo.

Ernst & Young and Monster.com sponsored the evening along with Altadis.

Giuliani, who also appeared on a Cigar Aficionado cover, enjoyed his cigar and a Scotch after his speech. According to Altadis, he joked that he "really would have told the country what he thought of John Kerry" if he had had the Scotch before.
